It’s always interesting to read the reviews following televised debates as to who captured the moment and connected best with the live and/or viewing audience. It’s usually a victory of style over substance, but nevertheless, minds are made up and actions follow. Over the years I have witnessed many executive presentations, some of which were mesmerizing in their delivery and some considerably less so. And yet the stakes can be equally high and deserving of intense thought and preparation. While it is understandable that a presentation due two months hence is easy to move down the “To Do” list, doing so may result in a missed opportunity to galvanize an audience and create the action desired. Spending quality time with a good speech writer and developing support materials that connect in both a rational and emotional way with the audience will pay dividends far beyond the cost of acquiring their services and the time spent preparing for the performance. Start early and finish strong.
